Cannabis Tutorials: How To Fill Preroll Cones

Wondering how to fill preroll cones? When you don’t roll a joint properly, the paper can burn out faster or unevenly. Not to mention, the art of rolling takes practice, patience, and dedication. What if you haven’t mastered it or perhaps feel a little lazy? The good news is, having a perfect smoking session with your flowers doesn’t have to come with the hassle of manually rolling a classic joint. Pre-rolled cones offer a great solution that is easy and portable. Not to mention, they also come in various flavors!

Learn today how to fill preroll cones skillfully in 3 easy steps.

What You’ll Need

Before we jump into the 3 steps to fill your preroll cones and enjoy a smoking session, here are the accessories you will need to have at the ready:

  • Your flowers
  • Grinder
  • Rolling tray or a clean surface
  • High quality preroll cones
  • Cone packer
  • Lighter

Note:  If you don’t have a cone packer, you can also use a pencil, chopstick, poker from your clipper lighter, or another long stick-like tool to help with packing.

Step 1: Prepare Your Flowers

The first step is to use your grinder to break down your flower into smaller pieces. If you don’t have a grinder, you can also use your fingers to gently crush the flower, including pulling out any seeds and stems. Make sure it isn’t too fine or the preroll can be clogged and hard to smoke. Too thick and it won’t pack into the cone evenly creating an uneven smoke. You want it to be a happy medium that is a semi-leafy and fluffy consistency.

Step 2: Fill & Pack Your Preroll Cone

Now it’s time to fill up your preroll. Make sure to have a rolling tray or clean surface to work on so you don’t lose any flowers in the process. Get your preroll cone and cone packer ready. Make sure to handle the joint carefully during this step. If you put too much pressure on the sides, you can bend the paper, which creates an uneven smoke.

Put a little bit of flower into the bottom of your preroll and pack it down with the cone packer. Continue the process by filling and packing. You want to make sure it’s evenly filled and not packed too loose or too tight to avoid an uneven burn when you smoke. Leave around a quarter inch at the top of your cone.

Step 3: Seal and Enjoy!

The quarter-inch at the top that is left will be used to seal off your preroll cone. You can seal your cone in two main ways. The easiest is by twisting the empty paper on top between your pointer finger and thumb in one direction. It will roll up into a candlewick shape. You can also lightly pinch in the wick part to flatten out the top of your cone to make it easier to light.

Another method is known as the folded top or dutch crown. This creates a flatter seal for your preroll cone. You want to make sure the flower at the top is packed flat with your cone packer. Then use the cone packer to fold down one side of the leftover paper. Press down gently. Repeat the process with the other two remaining sides of the paper sticking up. Whichever way you choose to seal your preroll, you are now ready to light it up with your lighter, sit back, relax and enjoy!
