As of Monday 9/24, New York governor Andrew Cuomo passed a bill that officially recognizes medical cannabis as a legitimate medical substitute for pain management, a field dominated until this day by opioid drugs. What does this mean for the future of medical cannabis in the state?
CBD comes either from hemp plants or marijuana plants. The source of a product depends mainly on the legal status of cannabis in each US state. Although hemp and marijuana both belong to the same family, they are very different in biology, cultivation, and function.
An important step for medical marijuana legalization was made today in Greece. The Greek parliament approved the first draft of the bill for the legalization of medical cannabis products. The bill was introduced by the governing party (SYRIZA) and was supported by the majority of the house (Potami, Independent Greeks, Democratic Alliance). The Greek Communist Party voted against it and asked for its withdrawal, along with the far-right group Golden Dawn and the opposition party of New Democracy.
On April 13, 2017, PM Justin Trudeau proposed his plans to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in Canada. This move would make Canada the second nation in the world after Uruguay to completely legalize cannabis for everyone. Compared to the reluctant stance of the US federal government, the Canadian authorities are hard at work to make this happen by July 2018.
